This detox diet plan prescribes cutting down on animal proteins, which take more energy to process by your body, while increasing your intake of fiber-rich foods. According to the creator of this diet, Kimberly Snyder, if you follow this diet correctly, you can lose about 5 pounds without depriving yourself.

The 5 Day Detox Diet plan deconstructed:

Breakfast Start your day with a glass of water mixed with the juice of half a lemon , which contain bacteria to aid digestion, drink another 16 ounces of water. Then it is time to make a smoothie. Snyder’s recipe is for three 16- to 30-ounce servings and is made with an assortment of fruits (think lemon), which cuts through the grassy taste of most detox smoothies.

Mix 1.5 cups ice water and 1 head of organic romaine lettuce (chopped) in a blender on low speed. Gradually moving to higher speeds, add 1/3 bunch of organic cilantro, 1/3 bunch of organic parsley, 3 to 4 stalks of organic celery and 2 organic apples (cored and chopped). Add 1 organic banana and the juice of 1/2 an organic lemon.

Lunch According to Snyder, a protein- and dairy-free lunch helps the body cleans itself. Her lunchtime pick? A green salad topped with a sliced avocado (for fiber and energy), your favorite veggies, freshly squeezed lemon juice and cayenne pepper. A green salad (sans avocado) followed by a large vegetable soup or miso soup is a great option too, says Snyder.

An hour after lunch, consider drinking another glass of water with fresh-squeezed lemon juice – consuming the juice of two lemons throughout the day helps clean the liver.
